ROHNERT PARK (BCN) — Two 13-year-old girls were struck and injured by an SUV while walking to school in a crosswalk Wednesday morning, a Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety sergeant said.
Both girls suffered multiple abrasions. One of the girls has been released from Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital and the other is having surgery for a broken leg, Sgt. Jeff Nicks said.
The girls were walking north on Snyder Lane to Lawrence E. Jones Middle School around 9 a.m. They were crossing the street in a crosswalk at Medical Center Drive when they were struck by a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by a 40-year-old Rohnert Park woman, Nicks said.
The girls were thrown 55 feet and were found face down in the southbound lane of Snyder Lane. The driver stopped at the scene, Nicks said.
“Statements were made at the scene regarding inattention. The driver’s cellphone was taken by police as evidence as well as her vehicle,” Nicks said.
