Union City woman sexually assaulted by fake cable company worker

UNION CITY (KRON)  A Union City woman was sexually assaulted by a man posing as a Comcast employee earlier this month and police today asked the public for help in identifying the suspect.

The man knocked on the door of the woman’s home on San Ramon Court on Aug. 24 and told her he was there for a service call, police said.

The woman told the man she didn’t have any service calls scheduled and tried to close the door, but the man forced his way in and sexually assaulted her, according to police.

Police have released a composite sketch of the suspect and are asking the public for any help in identifying or locating him.

He is described as a white man around 30 years old, between 5 feet 9 inches and 6 feet tall and weighing around 180 pounds. He had a muscular build and short black hair, and was last seen wearing a red Comcast shirt with brown pants, police said.

Police have not received any other reports of similar incidents in Union City.

One resident in the community of Mountain House reported a person in a Comcast shirt coming for a service call when there was no call scheduled, but the suspect in that incident left when the resident closed the door. The two incidents do not appear to be linked, police said.

Comcast officials told police that while employees might arrive unannounced for service issues, they should always have a photo ID readily visible.
