Valley Fire: Man arrested for theft and impersonating officer at fire zone in Lake County

Steven Worley

LAKE COUNTY (KRON) — Not everyone is trying to lend a helping hand during the Valley Fire — some people are taking advantage.

Looters have been entering evacuated areas to steal what is left behind. In Lake County, police arrested Steven Worley.

He is charged with impersonating a peace officer and theft. Police said they spotted his car driving in an evacuated area on Highway 175 Monday afternoon.

When they tried to stop him, he ran. And in his car, they found a California Highway Patrol hat.

In his car, they also found someone’s wallet and a bunch of electronics. A deputy also found a locked safe in the back seat.
