Five engines, helicopters, and Cal Fire respond to wildfire in Monterey

UPDATE SUNDAY 6:40 P.M.: The Tassajara Fire is now 1,086 acres and 30 percent contained, according to Cal Fire.

UPDATE 10:26 P.M. : The Tassajara Fire is now at 1,200 acres and 10 percent contained, according to Cal Fire. It’s 2.5 miles north of Jamesburg in Monterey County.

UPDATE 9:24 P.M. : (BCN) — A wildfire that started Saturday afternoon in unincorporated Monterey County east of Seaside has burned 95 acres and was 60 percent contained as of 7:45 p.m., according to Cal Fire.

The Laureles Fire started at about 3:30 p.m. on the roadside at the corner of Quail Ridge Lane and state Highway 68, Monterey County Regional Fire Protection District Deputy Fire Marshal Dorothy Priolo said.

Priolo said a five-engine strike team responded to protect homes, another for the threat to land and helicopters for air support.

UPDATE 6:30 P.M. : The fire is 300 acres and it’s burning in unincorporated Monterey County, 2.5 miles north of the community of Jamesburg, according to Cal Fire.

MONTEREY (KRON/BCN) — A wildfire started Saturday afternoon in unincorporated Monterey County east of Seaside, a deputy fire marshal for the Monterey County Regional Fire Protection District said.

The fire started at about 3:30 p.m. on the roadside at the corner of Quail Ridge Lane and state Highway 68, Deputy Fire Marshal Dorothy Priolo said.

Priolo said a strike team of five engines has responded to protect homes, another team to handle the threat to land and helicopters to drop water on the fire.

Cal Fire has also responded, she said.
