FREMONT (KRON) — Scott Rates was live in Fremont and had new information on bats showing up in Alameda County. On a normal year, the county sees around three to nine rabid bats, according to the Health Department. So far this year, Alameda County has seen 12 rabid bats in the area.
The bats are showing up dead and are testing positive for rabies. If you see a rabid bat, the Health Department says to avoid picking it up or even touching it.
Most of the creatures have been found in Fremont, Pleasanton, and Livermore.
The drought is being looked at as one of the potential causes of bat occurrences.
