SAN JOSE (KRON/BCN) — Gov. Jerry Brown will meet with the Prime Minister of India Sunday to talk about climate change, renewable energy and the digital economy, the governor’s office said Saturday.

Brown will meet with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi at about 4:15 p.m. at The Fairmont Hotel at 170 S. Market St.

After the meeting with Brown, Modi will attend a community reception at 5 p.m. at the SAP Center where more than 18,000 people will gather. The Indo American Community of West Coast organized the event.

At 4 p.m., members of Sikhs For Justice, a human rights group seeking to spread the truth about the genocide of Sikhs in India between 1984 and 2000, are planning a protest in front of the SAP Center, according to the group’s leaders.

Brown’s office said the governor’s meeting with Modi continues his efforts to meet with world leaders and gather support to halt climate change.

On Friday, Brown was in New York City discussing the topic with leaders of Chile, Norway and Hungary, according to his office.

On Thursday he welcomed 14 new signatories, including Italy and New York City, to the Under 2 MOU climate agreement, his office said.

The Under 2 MOU agreement aims to limit the rise in the world’s average temperature to below two degrees Celsius, the threshold for preventing catastrophic climate changes, his office said.

Brown made trips in July to the Vatican in Italy and to the Climate Summit of the Americas in Toronto to call on cities, states and provinces to join California in preventing climate change.
