SANTA ROSA (KRON/BCN) — A motorcyclist died in a crash Saturday afternoon in Santa Rosa after trying to pass another vehicle and negotiate a bend in the road, police said.
Officers responded at 1:40 p.m. to a report of a crash at North Dutton Avenue and Guaymas Court, according to police.
Officers found the rider wedged under a parked vehicle where the person died, police said.
An investigation revealed that the motorcyclist was riding north on North Dutton Avenue at a high rate of speed and lost control of the cycle on the curve, according to police.
The vehicle the rider was passing was traveling at the speed limit of 40 mph, police said. Witnesses said the motorcyclist was traveling at about 70 mph on a black 2015 Harley Davidson, according to police.
Officers said the rider laid down the cycle and both slid on the pavement before hitting a curb, a street sign and wedging under the vehicle.
Northbound North Dutton Avenue at Guaymas Court may be closed until 9:30 p.m. as officers investigate the crash, Sgt. Ryan Corcoran said.
Any witnesses to the crash are being asked to call Officer Jeff Woods at (707) 543-3636.
