SAN JOSE (KRON) — A man who died Friday morning when a car he was in went 400 feet down a hill in San Jose has been identified as Richard Nielsen, officials with the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office said.
Police received the first report of the crash just after 9:30 a.m. when witnesses reported seeing a blue station wagon roll down the hill from the top of Guadalupe Mines Road, police said.
San Jose Fire Department responded to a report and when crews reached the scene, they learned a person inside the car died, according to the dispatcher.
The road leads to the Guadalupe Landfill, according to police.
Nielsen, 72, of San Jose, was the only person in the vehicle and he died at the bottom of the hill, police and medics said.
The death is the 35th traffic death of the year.
