Suspect in San Jose fatal hit and run turns himself in

SAN JOSE (KRON) — San Jose Police arrested a man in connection with the fatal hit and run collision that occurred on Tuesday morning, according to police.

The suspect, Pedro Cortez Bernal, 29, of San Jose, fled the scene at North White Road and Florence Avenue in San Jose around 7:05 a.m. and is now facing charges of a felony hit and run.

Officers responding to the accident found an adult male down on the roadway suffering from fatal injuries.

Surveillance video from the scene revealed the suspect was driving a white Ford full size pick-up truck.

Officers on a routine patrol spotted the suspected pick-up truck in the area of North Capitol Avenue near Alum Rock Avenue unoccupied. The truck was towed away for evidence, police said.

Later that evening, Pedro Cortez Bernal turned himself into the Santa Clara County Sheriffs Office, according to police.

San Jose Police took custody of Bernal and booked him into the Santa Clara County Jail, police said.

The hit and run is still an open investigation.
