SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A San Francisco resident is the California Lottery’s newest big winner after scratching her way to the $1,000,000 prize on the Million $$ Match Scratchers.
Janet Smith won the prize after buying a ticket at the Safeway store at 350 Bay St. in the North Waterfront neighborhood of San Francisco, according to lottery officials.
The store’s owner will get $5,000 from lottery officials for selling the ticket to Smith, the officials said.
If Scratchers’ players don’t win, they are given a second chance with the same ticket, according to lottery officials.
Players who enter the codes from the tickets into the lottery’s website will be entered into a weekly drawing for $25,000 through the 2nd Chance Program, lottery officials said.
For the California Lottery’s 30th anniversary, they are giving players who enter codes from Scratchers tickets with the 30th anniversary logo a chance to win $30,000, according to lottery officials.
