Botched vehicle theft leads to brief police pursuit, 2 arrested

ANTIOCH (BCN) — A botched vehicle theft led to a brief pursuit Thursday morning in Antioch and the arrest of a Pittsburg woman and an Antioch man, police said.

At 9:03 a.m., Antioch officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of Miller Street on a report of an attempted vehicle theft in progress.

Police said officers interrupted the theft and detained a suspect, later identified as 36-year-old Gary Worthington, at the scene.

But a woman, identified by police as 30-year-old Nicole Wade, fled in her own vehicle, causing police to initiate a pursuit.

As Wade traveled south on Hillcrest Avenue toward state Highway 4, police said she lost control near Renwick Lane and collided into a light pole.

Police said she then fled on foot, but was quickly taken into custody.

Both subjects were arrested on suspicion of felony auto theft, evading and probation violations, police said. They were booked into Martinez Detention Facility.
