CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (KRON) — The female murder victim who tried to escape her attacker but got stuck trying to climb over a chain-link fence and died has been identified by law enforcement officials in Ohio.
Chillicothe authorities said Wednesday that 31-year-old Rebecca Cade fought the suspect then ran into a lot surrounded by a fence. Police believe she got stuck on the fence trying to get out.
Cade’s badly beaten body was discovered hanging by her sleeve on Tuesday. Police say her death isn’t related to a string of suspicious deaths and disappearances of local women.
According to a report by news station WKRC, neighbors believed the murdered woman’s body was a Halloween prank.
“Just put my hands over my face and said, ‘This can’t be happening here, it’s not real, and I just didn’t see what I thought I saw,'” Tammy Dixon told the news station.
Ross County Prosecutor Matt Schmidt says a bloody rock recovered by investigators was apparently used in the attack.
Police Chief Keith Washburn said Cade died of blunt-force trauma to the head and neck, according to WKRC.
Earlier Wednesday a judge ordered 27-year-old Donnie Cochenour Jr. held on $2 million bond after he pleaded not guilty to a charge of murder in Cade’s death.
