Swimmers nervous for 35th Escape from Alcatraz swim after great white shark

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Swimmers are preparing for the annual Escape from Alcatraz with a test swim Friday morning.

The 35th annual swim is set to take place Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. but swimmers are nervous after a great white shark was spotted in the waters last weekend.

Three inmates successfully made the escape from Alcatraz in 1962. Now it’s your turn to make the one mile great escape from this historical island prison that is located in the middle of the San Francisco Bay.

Will Tran spoke to some of the swimmers and they admit this year they are quite concerned about this years swim from Alcatraz.

Typically, the swimmers are worried about drowning or water conditions, but this year they are worried about the shark.

The 35th annual swim could be the most memorable swim ever from Alcatraz.

Stay with KRON4 as we follow the race throughout the day.
