Brothers arrested for attempted murder in Napa

NAPA (BCN) —  Police arrested two brothers Sunday evening in Napa on suspicion of attempted murder, after an argument at a child’s birthday party escalated into violence, according to police.

At 7:06 p.m., officers responded to report of a shooting in the 2600 block of Kilburn Ave., police said.

When officers arrived, officers learned that about 40 people had gathered at the residence for the birthday party, police said.

During the party, several party-goers got into an argument. Afterward, one of the suspects, later identified as Napa resident Juan Gonzalez, 28, left the party with his young daughter for short time.

After dropping off his daughter, Gonzalez then returned to the party with his brother, 20-year-old Napa resident Gustavo Gonzalez, according to police.

Juan was carrying a loaded handgun and Gustavo was armed with a stick. Juan shot one round at one of the victims he had argued with earlier in the day. The round did not hit anyone. Juan tried to shoot a second round, but the gun jammed, police said.

Gustavo hit one victim in the upper body with the stick, according to police.

The pair then fled the area, heading toward their home on Bellevue Avenue.

Officers arrived at the Bellview Ave. location and set up a perimeter. Juan exited the residence with a 22-caliber revolver in his waistband, according to police.

Officers were able to detain him, police said. Gustavo had left the home before officers arrived. Several hours later, Gustavo turned himself in to police.

Officers arrested the pair and booked them at the Napa County Department of Corrections, police said.
