GILROY (BCN) — A 20-year-old man is now being held on suspicion of murder after his grandmother died over the weekend from stab wounds suffered in an incident at a Gilroy home earlier this month, police said Monday.
Stephen Gause-Subia allegedly stabbed his grandmother, 83-year-old Margarita Subia, and his 60-year-old aunt at a home in the 8400 block of Wayland Lane shortly after 6 p.m. on Oct. 5, police said.
Police officers and firefighters responded to a report of a disturbance at the residence, where they found the two women suffering from stab wounds to their head, face and extremities, according to police.
The women were airlifted to a hospital for severe injuries and underwent surgery, police said.
Gause-Subia was not at the home when police arrived but was found about two hours later walking along Murray Avenue and taken into custody without incident, according to police.
The 83-year-old succumbed to her injuries on Sunday and the 60-year-old woman has been released from the hospital and continues to recover from her stab wounds, according to police.
Gause-Subia is now suspected of murder and attempted murder, police said.
He is being housed at the Santa Clara County Main Jail without bail, according to jail records.
