21-year-old suspect arrested for robbing female victims walking alone

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A 21-year-old man suspected of preying on female victims and stealing their valuables as they walked alone in the city’s Richmond District earlier this month was arrested on Thursday, police said today.

San Francisco police were investigating at least five robberies during the first two weeks of October involving a lone suspect who had been preying on female victims walking by themselves.

During the robberies, the suspect allegedly stole cellphones and purses from his victims, according to police.

On Thursday, San Francisco police investigators from Major Crimes Unit and Richmond Station’s Plain Clothes Unit responded to the Richmond District where they conducted surveillance in the 4000 block of Fulton Street, near Golden Gate Park.

During their surveillance operation, police said San Francisco resident Alexander Posada allegedly committed two street robberies and he was subsequently taken into custody.

Posada was booked into San Francisco County Jail on robbery charges. He is suspected of carrying out at least five other street robberies, according to police.

Investigators are asking anyone with further information about these types of robberies to contact the SFPD Anonymous Tip Line at (415) 575-4444 or text-a tip to TIP411 with SFPD at the beginning of the message.
