SUNNYVALE (BCN) — A 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on his elderly parents Monday afternoon in Sunnyvale, a Department of Public Safety spokesman said Tuesday.

Daniel Trujillo allegedly stabbed his mother, who is in her late 70s, and his father, who is in his early 80s. The parents are in stable condition at hospitals as of Tuesday afternoon, public safety Capt. Jeff Hunter said.

Officers responded to the residence in the 200 block of Gabilan Avenue on a report of a family disturbance and stabbing around 1:30 p.m., Hunter said.

Arriving officers found multiple people in front of the home including Trujillo, who was identified as the suspect and was uncooperative with them, according to Hunter.

The officers used a conducted electrical weapon on Trujillo and deployed a police service dog that bit the suspect in an effort to place him in custody, Hunter said.

His parents were found outside the home suffering from stab wounds to the upper body and transported to hospitals, according to Hunter.

The 38-year-old was transported to a hospital for treatment then booked into county jail, according to Hunter.

Trujillo is being held without bail, according to jail records.Investigators recovered the knife they believe was used in the alleged stabbing as evidence, Hunter said.

Police interviewed Trujillo’s family members including his brother and sister, who are both adults, who were present at time of the incident, according to Hunter.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the Department of Public Safety at (408) 730-7100.
