2 injured after Navy vessel hits rough seas off California

Navy Fighter Jet Crashes in Nevada

SAN DIEGO (AP) – A Navy spokeswoman says two sailors suffered minor injuries during a training exercise in rough seas off the Southern California coast.

Spokeswoman Nicole Schwegman says the sailors were aboard a small vessel that was hit by a wave Wednesday near San Clemente Island.

Schwegman says the sailors were brought aboard a nearby warship and treated for minor injuries. She did not know the nature of the injuries.

At least two smaller vessels with up to six people aboard each were conducting exercises near the island about 80 miles west of the San Diego County coast.

There was a small craft advisory in the area and a gale warning to the northwest.
