Man arrested in connection with attempted murder, knife attack in Salinas

MONTEREY COUNTY (BCN) – A man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of attempted murder for an alleged stabbing incident near Salinas.

Gerardo Rodriguez Hernandez, 29, was also arrested on suspicion of making criminal threats, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded at 10:22 a.m. Thursday to a report a stabbing incident in the 300 block of El Camino Real near Salinas.

Investigators said Hernandez was driving with the victim, identified as Javier Hernandez, when the suspect threatened to kill the victim with a knife.

Javier Hernandez suffered cuts to his hands as he tried to keep the suspect from stabbing him, deputies said.

Several witnesses driving by stopped and assisted in disarming and detaining the suspect until deputies arrived at the scene.
