Motorcyclist suffers major injuries in I-80 Berkeley crash

BERKELEY (BCN) — A motorcyclist suffered major injuries in a crash on westbound Interstate Highway 80 in Berkeley this morning, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.

The crash was reported at about 6:20 a.m. on westbound Highway 80 west of University Avenue. Officers arrived and found a Harley-Davidson motorcycle and a Honda Civic that had collided, CHP spokesman Officer Sean Wilkenfeld said.

The motorcyclist, a 39-year-old man from Richmond, had apparently rear-ended the Honda, causing him to be ejected from the motorcycle. He was taken to Highland Hospital with injuries that are major but not life-threatening, Wilkenfeld said.

The two right lanes of the highway were briefly closed following the crash but have since reopened, he said.
