UPDATE 11:21 P.M.: Four more patients have been transported to the hospital, making it 12 total.
Reports said the origin of the odor may have been from the parking garage, but after an initial sweep of the first level of the garage, they could not locate a source.
They are preparing to do a second sweep of the parking garage, and will search both levels of the parking garage. The first floor of the hotel has been evacuated as a precaution.
UPDATE: Eight patients have been transported to Stanford Hospital and have been “decontaminated.”
PALO ALTO (KRON) — The Palo Alto Fire Department is on the scene of a HazMat situation at the Westin Hotel on El Camino Real, the department tweeted just after 10:30 p.m. Thursday.
Crews said up to five people have been exposed to an unknown odor and two HazMat teams are on-scene, crews said. At least three ambulances are there too, according to Palo Alto fire.
Hotel guests are being asked to shelter-in-place, so crews could keep the odor from spreading to other people, Palo Alto fire said.
