SANTA CLARA COUNTY (KRON) — An 86-year-old Gilroy man was killed in a crash on state Highway 152 in Santa Clara County near the Merced County border Monday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Around 9:45 a.m., the man was a passenger in a 2000 BMW heading west on Highway 152 west of Dinosaur Point Road at about 65 mph, CHP officials said.
The vehicle hydroplaned on the wet roadway, spun out and ended up on the north edge of the highway, according to the CHP.
The BMW then went up a hill before it went back on the road and rolled over on its roof, CHP officials said.
The 86-year-old man did not have a seatbelt on and succumbed to his injuries, according to the CHP.
The Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office is not releasing the man’s name until his next of kin has been notified of the death.
The driver, an 18-year-old Gilroy woman, suffered major injuries and another passenger, a 49-year-old Los Banos woman, was left with moderate injuries, CHP officials said.
Investigators do not suspect alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash, according to the CHP.
