Overturned big rig removed from onramp in Richmond

UPDATE 11:46 AM – An Interstate Highway 80 onramp in Richmond has been reopened this
morning after handling the result of a big-rig crash proved difficult, California Highway Patrol officials said.

The big-rig was full of hay, which mixed with wreckage in a roadway mess requiring an extensive cleanup effort, CHP officials said.

The vehicle’s weight also posed problems in getting the big-rig upright; once it was flipped off its side it immediately tipped back over again, CHP officials said.

The onramp was then reopened at 10:30 a.m.


RICHMOND (KRON) — A big rig accident is blocking the Carlson Boulevard onramp to westbound I-80 in Richmond early Friday morning, according to California Highway Patrol.

Just before 1 a.m., a big rig lost control and fell on its side causing a backup to get onto westbound I-80 early this morning.

Crews are working to remove the big rig. They estimate that the crash will be cleared by 10:30 a.m.

It is advised to use alternative routes like Potrero Avenue to get onto westbound I-80. bigrig2

No injuries were reported following the crash. No other cars were involved in the accident.
