10:50 a.m.

Los Angeles County authorities say they’ve made an arrest and that more could be imminent in the fatal shooting of an officer near his police department headquarters.

Sheriff’s Lt. John Corina says investigators have arrested a man suspected of driving the getaway car after 29-year-old Downey police Officer Ricardo “Ricky” Galvez was shot. He says detectives are interviewing others who have been detained.

Galvez was in plainclothes and sitting in the driver’s seat of his personal car when two men ran up and opened fire late Wednesday. Corina says the shooting was deliberate, but that a motive wasn’t yet known.

Corina says detectives don’t suspect terrorism and that the suspects may not have known Galvez was a police officer.

He says Galvez was in a public parking lot next to Downey police headquarters.
