Homicide suspect in Oakland Motel 6 standoff found dead from apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound

UPDATE 4:26 P.M.: After an eight-hour standoff with police, a triple-murder suspect shot and killed himself.

Eighteen-year-old Jason Brown was wanted in connection with a murder in Livermore last month and two other murders in Sacramento and Fresno. Police were preparing to enter the motel around 11 p.m. Friday when they heard gun shots.

After entering, they found Brown dead from self-inflicted wounds. Another suspect is wanted in connection with the Livermore shooting but has not been identified.

UPDATE 4:24 AM – Police in Oakland have confirmed a Thursday standoff at an East Oakland motel with a suspect wanted in connection with several area homicides has ended this morning with the suspect being found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Oakland Police Department has not officially identified the suspect who was found deceased, according to police spokeswoman Johnna Watson.

The suspect was found unresponsive this morning, suffering from what was likely a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Watson said.

The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency personnel.

No police officers discharged their firearms during the incident, according to Watson.

OAKLAND (KRON) — Oakland police are responding to police activity near 85th and Edes avenues Thursday afternoon, police said.

According to police, it is a barricade situation involving a homicide suspect. A SWAT team is on-scene at a Motel 6 at 8480 Edes Ave., police said.

A Blue Alert was issued at around 3:07 p.m., according to Oakland police. Livermore police are also on-scene.

A witness wrote on KRON’s Facebook page that roads are blocked in the area. CHP has confirmed the Hegenberger Road off-ramp from Northbound 880 is closed due to the police activity.
