SAN RAFAEL (KRON) — At least one person had died following a late night collision Monday on U.S. Highway 101 in San Rafael.
A vehicle was going the wrong way in the highway’s southbound lanes, just north of Central San Rafael exit around 11:20 p.m., according to California Highway Patrol.
The vehicle then collided with a gasoline tanker truck, CHP Officer Peter Van Eckhard said. The big rig was empty at the time of the accident.
A person in one of the vehicles lost consciousness and became trapped inside, according to CHP officials.
The driver suffered fatal injuries.
The truck driver was not injured, according to a witness.
Police are investigating if drugs or alcohol were involved in the accident.
