Neighbors hear screams from car, find woman shot in the head

A baby strapped in car seat was not harmed.

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating after a woman was found in her car suffering from a head injury after being shot.

The vehicle was found at 31st Street North and 58th Avenue North, which is in the Haines City area. The woman, who has not been identified, was transported to a local hospital.

Dennis Glover was in his home sitting down for a cup of coffee when he heard a loud noise outside. “I was sitting in there and drinking a cup of coffee and I heard something that sounded like a transformer blowing up,” said Glover. It was just after 7:30 A.M. and the sound wasn’t a transformer, it was gunfire.

“Then I heard the woman screaming down there, so I ran down there to see what was going on and the side of her head looked like it was blowed off,” said Glover.

Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputies responded and found the woman with a gunshot wound to her head at the intersection of 31st. Street and 58th Avenue North.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment, but the sheriff’s office isn’t releasing her name or her condition. Deputies say the community is not in danger, but they are still looking for the shooter.

Glover says when he came to the woman’s car, he found her baby in the back seat. “We tried to do what we could. We got the baby out of the car,’ said Glover. The baby was not harmed.
