SANTA ROSA (BCN) — A 19-year-old man was stabbed in the back this afternoon in Julliard Park by suspected gang members, a police sergeant said.
The victim was sitting with several acquaintances on a bench in the park at 225 Santa Rosa Ave. when he saw at least three males approach him around 12:30 p.m., Sgt. Tommy Isachsen said.
The teen got up and walked away, then ran when the suspects ran toward him, Isachsen said.
A physical fight began when the suspects caught the teen, and during the fight the teen was stabbed, Isachsen said. During the altercation the suspects directed gang challenges toward the victim, and it appears the teen was targeted, Isachsen said.
The victim suffered non life-threatening injuries to the back and was taken to a hospital, Isachsen said.
The suspects were described as Hispanic males between 14-19 years old with dark hair. They were last seen running to a vehicle and driving south on Santa Rosa Avenue, Isachsen said.
Witnesses to the altercation are asked to call the police department’s gang crimes team at (707) 543-3670. A reward up to $2,500 is offered from the Sonoma County Alliance for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects.
