PETALUMA (BCN) — Fire officials are investigating the cause for a two-alarm fire at a Petaluma business over the weekend as suspicious.
On Sunday at 3:05 a.m. firefighters responded to a structure fire happening at Cigarettes Cheaper, located at 231 McDowell Boulevard, according to fire officials.
A medic was returning from Petaluma Valley Hospital when they noticed smoke coming from the roof of the one-story building, fire officials said.
When firefighters arrived, they were able to enter the building and suppress the fire, protecting adjoining businesses, according to fire officials.
Firefighters ultimately brought the fire under control around 4 a.m., fire officials said.
While Cigarettes Cheaper sustained the most fire damage, other businesses in the building also sustained some damage, according to fire officials.
No occupants were inside the building at the time of the fire, fire officials said.
One firefighter sustained a minor injury when a part of the ceiling fell on his shoulder. The firefighter, however, did not need to go to the hospital, according to fire officials.
Fire officials are investigating the cause for the fire along with the Petaluma Police Department.
