OAKLAND (KRON) — Flooding on I-580 in Oakland caused multiple car accidents early Friday morning.
Around 4:30 a.m., two separate car crashes occurred along westbound I-580 due to standing water in both directions of the roadway.
The first crash at Lakeshore Avenue temporarily blocked all lanes of westbound I-580 while the second crash occurred less than a mile up the interstate just before I-980 and blocked three lanes.
All lanes of westbound I-580 at Lakeshore Avenue are now open, but CHP is advising drivers to avoid the area due to the leftover flooding.
CalTrain crews are headed to the scene to clear the water from the roadways.
Use I-880 as an alternative route.
