SANTA ROSA (KRON/BCN) — An alleged gang member was arrested Saturday afternoon on suspicion of felony hit-and-run after a pursuit through Santa Rosa, Cotati and Sonoma County, police said.
Officers arrested Mateo Sandoval, 19, of Santa Rosa, after the pursuit, which started at 3:52 p.m. near Sonoma Avenue and South E Street in Santa Rosa, according to police.
Sandoval was driving a black, 4-door Mazda when a police officer tried to stop him for reckless driving, police said.
Sandoval did not yield to the officer’s lights and sirens, but led officers on a chase at speeds of up to 70 mph, according to police.
Sandoval drove faster than posted speed limits and rear-ended an occupied vehicle in Cotati, police said.
Sandoval did not stop after the collision, but headed back toward Santa Rosa, according to police.
On northbound U.S. Highway 101, Sandoval failed to yield to officers in pursuit and crashed into a cement barrier when he exited the freeway at Santa Rosa Avenue, according to police.
Sandoval and two passengers fled the vehicle and the three were arrested a short distanced from the crash site, police said.
The two passengers are also alleged gang members, according to police.
