SANTA CRUZ (KRON/BCN) — A Capitola man was arrested Thursday in connection with a burglary last week in Santa Cruz.
Efrain Berulas, 49, was arrested on suspicion of burglary, felony possession of a firearm and giving false identification to a police officer.
Police said Berulas was involved in a Dec. 5 residential burglary that was caught on video surveillance.
Investigators released surveillance photos and video taken from inside the residence at the time of the burglary to the public asking for help in identifying the suspect.
Police received a tip identifying Berulas as the suspect, and he was taken into custody.
Berulas initially gave investigators a false name, but officers learned his true identity after his arrest and learned he is a convicted felon who had previously been deported, police said. Police said he has a previous burglary conviction stemming from a 2001 case.
Detectives served a search warrant at the suspect’s residence and discovered property belonging to the victims, police said. A shotgun and a SKS rifle were also found.
