Woman fatally struck by car while walking granddaughter to school

UPDATE 3:43 PM: (KRON/BCN) — A woman was fatally struck by a car as she was walking her granddaughter to school just outside of Gilroy Monday morning, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.

A car hit the woman, a Gilroy resident at least 60 years old, near Tatum and Wren avenues, CHP Officer Christopher Miceli said.

Officers were notified of the collision around 8:10 a.m., according to the CHP.

Emergency crews pronounced the woman dead at the scene. Her 7-year-old granddaughter was not injured, Miceli said.

The woman’s name had not been released by the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office as of Monday afternoon.

Officers were notified of the collision around 8:10 a.m. near Tatum and Wren avenues, according to a dispatcher.

No further details were immediately available at this time.
