SJPD: Teen shot after chasing suspect who stole her car near Oakridge Mall in South San Jose



SAN JOSE (KRON) — San Jose police are investigating a car theft and a shooting near Oakridge Mall in San Jose.

Police said it happened near Winfield Boulevard and Coleman Road. Roads were blocked off in the area but has since reopened.

Police said the victim is a 17-year-old girl. She suffered a grazed bullet wound and is expected to survive.

According to police, the keys were left in the car when the suspect got in and drove away. The girl and her friends chased the stolen car.

They confronted the thief at a nearby intersection, who pulled out a gun and shot the girl.

The teen’s car was recovered nearby, but police will not release exactly where they found it since there is an ongoing investigation.

Police describe the suspect as a Hispanic 19-year-old man, wearing a black hoodie.

No other information was made immediately available.
