BRENTWOOD (KRON) — Brentwood police are warning the public about a device used by identity thieves installed inside of gas pump ATMs, police said Tuesday.
According to police, the device, called a skimmer, collects personal information from credit cards. Newer versions, which at one time were mounted outside the pump’s ATM, are smaller and can now be installed inside it, police said.
Identity thieves can gain access to some of the devices remotely, according to police.
Tamper-proof stickers are now being placed on the front panels of gas pumps, so the public should ensure the stickers are intact before entering credit card information, according to police.
