No threat found after man with possible weapon reported at Chapman University in Southern California

UPDATE 8:36 P.M.: Police have completed the search. No threat was found, and the campus has been told it may resume normal operations.


 

ORANGE (KRON) — A man with a possible weapon has been reported at Chapman University in Southern California Tuesday night, according to the school’s website.

The report said the man was seen near DeMille Hall on the school’s campus in Orange, California. A shelter-in-place has been issued at the hall.

The rest of the campus did not need to evacuate, the school said.

The Orange Police Department is on the campus. The school said there has not been any gunfire, and no injuries have been reported.

“Subject described as male, short black hair, 25 to 30 years old, 5’10 180 lbs, wearing red, yellow, and orange sweater. Possible handgun seen in left hand. Orange Police searching, continue to shelter in place. Notify Public Safety if seen someone matching description,” the website wrote.

No other information was made immediately available. The university said it takes every threat seriously.
