The United States Postal Service is the latest to ban shipping hoverboards by air. The popular gadget will only be shipped via ground transportation because of potential safety hazards involving the batteries.
Hoverboards have come under scrutiny after several of the devices reportedly burst into flames, causing fires and sending riders to the emergency room, including a hoverboard fire at a home in Brentwood.
At issue is whether the lithium ion batteries, powering some hoverboards, are causing them to overheat.
Last week, Amazon announced it would stop selling a majority of hoverboards due to safety concerns.
