Richmond to close most public facilities during holidays

RICHMOND (BCN) — Many Richmond public facilities will be closed for the holidays as part of a cost-saving initiative, city officials said.

The city’s offices, libraries and most recreation facilities will be closed starting Thursday and will reopen on Jan. 4, according to Richmond City Manager Bill Lindsay’s weekly newsletter.

The police and fire departments will remain open, while there will be partial services at other city departments, including transit, public works and the housing authority.

This has been done for the past three years as part of a cost-saving initiative, Lindsay’s newsletter said.
