SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — The San Francisco Police Department are taking extra precautions this New Year’s Eve as hundreds of thousands of partygoers are expected to join the Bay Area’s largest celebration along The Embarcadero.
While no threats have been to San Francisco, the additional boost in security comes as a response following the recent spike in threats reported around the world and the deadly attacks in Paris and San Bernardino.
“We’re having additional officers compared to years prior because of the worldwide global events that have been occurring. We’ve been monitoring that and so we want to make sure that San Francisco remains safe for everybody coming to San Francisco to celebrate New Year’s Eve,” said SFPD spokesman Ofc. Albie Esparza.
SFPD will not reveal their tactics, but teams of officers will be in full force on foot, bicycles, in vehicles, and undercover.
