Two people trapped, five people injured in Walnut Creek crash

(KRON) — Fire officials say that five people were injured in a two-vehicle crash in Walnut Creek Wednesday afternoon. One the victims suffered serious injuries.

The collision happened shortly before 4 p.m. on Olympic Boulevard near Alpine Road, according to the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.

Crews had to extricate two people from the wreck. One suffered major injuries and was transported to John Muir Medical Center, fire officials said.

Four other people suffered injuries that were considered minor and are also being taken to the hospital.

Fire Marshal Robert Marshall is advising drivers to avoid the area near the collision, which occurred on a main thoroughfare by Interstate Highway 680.
