Attempted burglary leads to officer-involved shooting in San Mateo

SAN MATEO (KRON) — San Mateo police were asking residents in the area of Greenoak Court to shelter in place as officers searched for a burglary suspect Wednesday morning.

Police responded to a report of a residential burglary on Greenoak Court around 2:45 a.m., according to the San Mateo Police Department.

Upon arrival, officers immediately encountered a female suspect, Maria King, when they arrived. The suspect tried to flee and a brief altercation broke out between the suspect and an officer.

The officer was forced to fire his weapon in defense, but no one was hit. The King, 31, was then safely taken into custody moments later.

Neither the officer or the suspect were injured during the altercation.

The shelter in place was put into effect around 3 a.m. as police searched for the second suspect. The shelter in place was lifted by 7 a.m.

The second suspect, Saliq Calloway, 22, was apprehended in San Bruno around 7:30 a.m. and has been taken back to San Mateo.
