Police investigate Watsonville shooting

WATSONVILLE (KRON) — Watsonville police are searching for the gunmen connected to the shooting that sent one man to the hospital Monday night, police said.

The shooting happened at around 7:15 p.m. in the area of Jasper Way near Clifford Avenue.

Police said the caller reported seeing three men running from the scene of where the shooting occurred.

Responding officers located a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. The injury was not life threatening, and the victim was transported to the hospital, police said.

Police said the 25-year-old victim was standing outside when the three suspects, identified as Hispanic males between the ages of 16 and 30, started chasing him.

He was running up stairs when he was shot at three times and struck by one bullet, police said.

Responding officers located three males that matched the suspects’ descriptions hiding behind a dumpster, but police said it doesn’t appear those subjects were involved in the shooting.

Police said the shooting appears to be gang-related.
