SANTA CLARA COUNTY (KRON) — A woman died in a head-on collision on US Highway 101 just south of San Jose Thursday morning, according to California Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred around 6 a.m. on southbound Hwy 101 near Bailey Avenue, CHP officials said.
A man was driving when the car spun out and struck the center divider, according to authorities.
The car came to rest facing north on a lane and was then hit head-on by a southbound vehicle.
The female passenger pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle that spun out had gotten out of the car before the crash, according to CHP officials. It is unclear if the woman was in or out of the vehicle when she was killed.
The Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office responded to the scene.
The crash blocked part of highway 101 for more than two hours. All lanes reopened as of 8:20 a.m., according to the CHP.
It is unclear if the driver was injured.
