SAN LEANDRO (BCN) — A big-rig driver who died when he crashed into a tree on Interstate Highway 880 in San Leandro on Tuesday appears to have died when he
suffered a medical emergency, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The 54-year-old Oakland resident, whose name was not released pending notification of his family, was driving a big-rig south on Highway 880 near Washington Avenue when he suffered an unspecified medical problem and crashed into the center divider at 12:41 p.m., CHP officials said.
The driver was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead there. He was the sole occupant of the truck and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash, CHP officials said.
