Report: San Francisco, San Jose among top 10 in list of best places to live

SAN JOSE (KRON) — The quality of life in the Bay Area is being recognized by a new ranking of large American cities by the magazine U.S. News and World Report.

San Francisco, which consistently does well in such evaluations, is ninth on the list. San Jose is 10th on the list, propelled by a strong job market.

Downtown businessman Marcus Buchanan was not the least bit surprised that San Jose was on the list of the top 10 most desirable large American cities in which to live.

Neither was the chamber of commerce.

U.S. News and World Report describes San Jose as a diverse city whose proximity to other tech centers like Google and Apple are cementing its position as a tech hub for the region.

Described as a sprawling city defined as much by suburban neighborhoods as it by the new high-rises going up downtown, San Jose was faulted for the ever-worsening traffic, much of it fueled by all those new jobs.

The other big challenge is the cost of living.

In spite of those problems, the magazine said San Jose has retained its character and innovative spirit, just ask real estate photographer Blake Cardoza.
