SAN JOSE (BCN) — A pedestrian struck and killed in a hit-and-run collision early Friday morning in San Jose has been identified as 57-year-old Mark Gonzales
of Campbell, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office.
Xavier Villarruel, 21, was arrested in connection with the collision reported at about 2:45 a.m. Friday in the area of Camden and Leigh avenues, police Officer Albert Morales said.
Responding officers found a Dodge SUV and Nissan truck with major damage, Morales said.
The truck driver, later identified as Gonzales, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Morales.
Officers were initially unable to find anyone in the SUV.
Investigators later identified Villarruel as the SUV driver and obtained an arrest warrant for him later that day, according to Morales.
The suspect was arrested at his San Jose home and then booked into Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of DUI, Morales said.
Gonzales was the 12th person killed in a collision on city streets this year, according to Morales.
