OAKLAND (KRON) — Aldon Smith has agreed to a new contract with the Oakland Raiders in the midst of his year-long suspension, according to ESPN.
The 26-year-old pass rusher was at the Raiders’ facility Monday allegedly there to finalize the deal, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
If the meeting goes well, Smith will sign an agreed-upon contract.
Smith was suspended after he violated the NFL’s substance-abuse policy. The NFL suspended him for an incident in November that involved driving under the influence, hit-and-run, and vandalism.
Smith will be eligible to apply for reinstatement 60 days before the one-year anniversary of the November suspension, according to ESPN.
In September, Smith pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor counts of hit-and-run, drunken driving and vandalism, charges that stemmed from an alleged Aug. 6 incident.
