Santa Clara man robbed of $8,000 craigslist vehicle scam

SANTA CLARA (BCN) — A man was robbed of $8,000 in Santa Clara after test-driving a car for sale that he found through Craigslist on Thursday, police said.

The victim made plans with the suspect to test drive the private car he found through the online classifieds website, police said.

The suspect and victim met with one another and the victim drove the vehicle around until they stopped in the 100 block of Saratoga Avenue shortly before 4:30 p.m., according to police.

The victim chose to purchase the vehicle and gave $8,000 in cash to the suspect, who in return handed over the title, police said.

The victim noticed the title was under a female name, but the suspect was male, according to police.

The suspect quickly took the money and ran away from the scene, police said.

Responding officers were unable to find the suspect, according to police.
