Police responded around 6 p.m. to the 2200 block of Fremont Court on reports of a stabbing.

According to police, officers arrived and found a 49-year-old man suffering from a stab wound to the abdomen.

Police said the victim and witnesses told officers the suspect had fled the area prior to officers’ arrival.

The victim was transported to a trauma center and went into surgery with life threatening injuries, but police said it was believed he would recover.

Police said through an investigation, Heather Prestwich, 29, of Fairfield was identified as the suspect in the stabbing and located in the 1600 block of Sunset Avenue.

She was arrested without incident and taken to the county jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
