FAIRFIELD (BCN) — Police have released an alleged suspect in the stabbing of a man in Fairfield Friday evening after new information was revealed during an investigation.
Police responded around 6 p.m. to the 2200 block of Fremont Court on reports of a stabbing.
According to police, officers arrived and found a 49-year-old man suffering from a stab wound to the abdomen.
Police said the victim and witnesses told officers the suspect had fled the area prior to officers’ arrival.
The victim was transported to a trauma center and went into surgery with life threatening injuries, but police said it was believed he would recover.
Police said through an investigation, Heather Prestwich, 29, of Fairfield was identified as the suspect in the stabbing and located in the 1600 block of Sunset Avenue.
She was arrested without incident and taken to the county jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
After continuing their investigation Saturday, police said new information was brought the attention of investigators and it appeared the crime may not have occurred as it was originally reported.
Police said Prestwich was released from custody pending further investigation of the incident.
