SAN RAFAEL (KRON/BCN) — A fire at an apartment complex in San Rafael displaced 13 adults and four children this afternoon, San Rafael Fire Chief Chris Gray said.
Firefighters responded Monday at noon to the blaze at the two-story, six-unit apartment building at 142 Park St., Gray said.
An upstairs apartment was in flames when firefighters arrived, but the flames were under control within 15 minutes. The fire was contained to two apartments, but other units sustained smoke and water damage, Gray said.
The apartment building was set back from the street behind a single-family dwelling, and access was available only via a single, narrow driveway, according to Gray.
There were no injuries and the American Red Cross will provide housing assistance and vouchers for food and clothing, Gray said.
The fire appears accidental and its cause is under investigation, Gray said.
